CARVAJAL-COGOLLO, JUAN E.; CASTANO-MORA, OLGA V.; CARDENAS-AREVALO, GLADYS  e  URBINA-CARDONA, JOSÉ NICOLÁS. Reptiles of associated areas to wetlands from the plain of the department of Córdoba, Colombia. Caldasia [online]. 2007, vol.29, n.2, pp.427-438. ISSN 0366-5232.

We present a list of 44 reptile species (16 families) from three wetlands or cienagas in northern Colombia, in the department of Córdoba: Ciénaga Grande del Bajo Sinú, Ciénaga de Ayapel, and the swamp complex of the ciénaga the Arcial-El Porro-Cintura (APC). Colubridae (Serpentes) and Polychrotidae (Sauria) were the most diverse families. The most diverse wetland was the APC with a total of 37 species. The species accumulation curves and the non parametric estimators, ICE and Chao 2, indicated a representative inventory for the ciénaga Grande del Bajo Sinú and Ayapel, and a slightly subsampling for the APC complex. A low complementarity value was observed among the swamps. We suggest that the APC swamp complex is a prioritary area for conservation due to highest species richness and highest number of rare and unique species; however, it is important to design management and conservation plans to maintain such high beta diversity and ensure survival of those reptile species in the wetlands of the Department of Córdoba.
