Abstract

GIRALDO-CANAS, DIEGO  and  PETERSON, PAUL M.. Revision of the genus Sporobolus (Poaceae: Chloridoideae: Sporobolinae) for northwest South America: Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela. Caldasia [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.1, pp.41-76. ISSN 0366-5232.

A taxonomic treatment of Sporobolus for northwest South America is given. Eleven species are recognized in the study area. Keys for determining the species, morphological descriptions, and illustrations are provided. Morphological relationships, geographical distributions, ecological preferences, common uses, and vernacular names are given. Sporobolus lasiophyllus Pilg. is lectotypified. Sporobolus pilifer (Trin.) Kunth, Sporobolus tenuissimus (Mart. ex Schrank) Kuntze, and Sporobolus virginicus (L.) Kunth are reported in Colombia for the first time. Sporobolus brasiliensis (Raddi) Hack. (=Eragrostis airoides Nees) and Sporobolus domingensis (Trin.) Kunth are excluded from this treatment.
