As part of an on-going taxonomic revision of Matisia section Calyculatae (Malvaceae - Matisieae), Matisia pacifica, a new species restricted to the biogeographic Chocó region is described and illustrated. An expanded description of M. bracteolosa Ducke, s. str., a species restricted to the Amazonian region, is also included and its possible affinities are discussed.
