Abstract
ABUHATAB-ARAGON, YAIRA AYARITH and DONATO-RONDON, JOHN CHARLES. Cocconeis placentula and Achnanthidium minutissimum, indicator species of oligotrophic Andean streams. Caldasia [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.1, pp.205-212. ISSN 0366-5232.
To understand the relationship between the chemistry of the water and the diatoms species Achnanthes minutissimum and Cocconeis placentula in the stream Tota (Boyacá-Colombia), we analyzed the daily abundance of these benthic diatoms on rocky substrata between July and August of 2009. Measurements of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), ammonium, nitrate, conductivity, and pH were taken daily. We observed that the daily abundance of A. minutissimum was associated with low concentrations of ammonia, while the abundance of C. placentula responded to low levels of SRP.
