Abstract

The article presents the global environmental crisis and the tendencies towards unsustainability, describes the water management evolution from linear to complex forms, and explores the relations between water and regional sustainability. The Colombian water abundance and its causes is presented, and I proposes a set of criteria for defining the limits of the Cundinamarca-Bogotá Hydric Region, in order to link integrated water management and regional sustainability, and present the resulting map for the region and its characteristics. The article ends by proposing the necessary changes for using water management as a tool for regional sustainability.
