Abstract

BENJUMEA-HOYOS, Carlos A.; VILLADA, Andrea  and  CASTANO, Juan David. Thermal structure evolution and morphometric characteristics of a tropical mountain wetland. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2020, vol.44, n.171, pp.329-343.  Epub June 05, 2021. ISSN 0370-3908.  https://doi.org/10.18257/raccefyn.1046.

Wetlands are ecosystems of great ecological and social importance due to the great variety of ecosystem services they offer. In this research, we evaluated an eastern wetland. First, we carried out a bathymetric survey, then we located temperature sensors in the water column, and collected meteorological records from a Cornare station located in the municipality of Guarne. Once we had the bathymetric map, the wetland was characterized as a shallow wetland with a mean depth of 0.82 m, an area of 1,300 m2, and a volume of 1,072 m3. In the analysis of the dynamics of the thermal structure with the meteorological variables, the water column presented a continuous warm polymictic mixing pattern, which responded to the variation of ambient temperature and solar radiation more than to the seasonal pattern. The maximum heat storage during the evaluated period occurred in March with a value of 10,431.42 J/cm2 between 18:00 and 21:00 hours. This project was part of Agreement 310-2017 signed by Cornare, Universidad Católica de Oriente, and the municipality of Rionegro.
