In the present study, we recorded for the first time Thamnocephalus venezuelensis Belk and Pereira, 1982 in La Guajira, northern Colombia. The species was collected in temporary ponds from two localities. Here we add information about a character present in the oviduct of T. venezuelensis females not mentioned before that may be related to the local population and extends the distribution of this species to Colombia.
