Abstract

LOPEZ GARCES, CLAUDIA LEONOR. LOS TICUNA FRENTE A LOS PROCESOS DE NACIONALIZACIÓN EN LA FRONTERA ENTRE BRASIL, COLOMBIA Y PERÚ. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2002, vol.38, pp.77-104. ISSN 0486-6525.

THIS ARTICLE EXPLORES THE PROCESSES OF TICUNA ETHNIC IDENTITY FORMATION AS they intersect with the different national identities related to the Brasilian, Colombian and Peruvian nation-states, whose political borders meet in the Solimões/Upper Amazon region, an area that also includes Ticuna territory. Using historical and ethnographic data, the analysis centers on the ways in which national identities have been incorporated by the Ticuna, generating "identity tension" between this group's ethnic identity and the different national identities, a situation that is characteristic of regions in border areas between countries.

Keywords : Ticuna indians; ethnicity; nationality; political borders.
