Abstract

MEZA, ANDRÉS. TRAYECTORIAS DE LOS AFRODESCENDIENTES EN EL COMERCIO CALLEJERO DE BOGOTÁ. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2003, vol.39, pp.71-104. ISSN 0486-6525.

THIS ARTICLE REFLECTS ON THE THEORETICAL JUXTAPOSITION OF AFROGENETIC APPROACHES and postmodern notions based on theories of miscegenation. It proposes a complementary analysis using both approaches, starting from historical and ethnographic information gathered during field work with populations of African descent in Bogotá. In this sense, ethnic dynamics and inter-ethnic relationships are analyzed through life-histories where subjects recount their migratory experiences, their insertion into an urban-metropolitan context and especially, their work selling on the streets. It studies the particular experience of people of African descent working in Bogota's downtown streets, correlating it with the restrictive policies on the use of public space, discriminatory practices and socio and racial stereotyping.

Keywords : Colombias of African descent; ethnicity; street sellers; public space; social and racial stereotyping.
