ARANGO GAVIRIA, LUZ GABRIELA. GÉNERO E INGENIERÍA: LA IDENTIDAD PROFESIONAL EN DISCUSIÓN. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2006, vol.42, pp.131-156. ISSN 0486-6525.
IN THIS ARTICLE, EXAMINE THE GENDERED EXPERIENCE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS AS they construct their professional identity as computer engineers. I present a historical overview of engineering (civil and mining) in Colombia and its development as a masculine profession, focusing on the subjetive perceptions of students, both men and women, who were about to finish their undergraduate studies at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the country's most important public university. The analysis of eighteen interviews reveals gendered practices and representations and shows how they reproduce or modify the masculine character of this discipline, building new sexual divisions in engineering.
