From the intersection of two visions about the nature of the music production in Colombia, this article proposes a way to understand the logic of the national music field. This relational analytic construction enables the description of the social space in which occurs the negotiation and definition of the logic of production, underlying the different musical genres that compose the universe of contemporary popular music in Colombia, and the practices of the agents and institutions that shape this field. This analysis allows us to explain the dynamic of the national music field, characterize the positions occupied by the different musical genres and its representatives in the music market, and to identify the role of the production and distribution enterprises in the artists consecration process
