Abstract

LOPEZ ROSAS, WILLIAM ALFONSO. MUSEUMS, CULTURAL HERITAGE AND PATRONAGE: THE CONCEPTUAL LIMITS OF THE FUNDING OF MEMORY INSTITUTIONS IN COLOMBIA. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2010, vol.46, n.1, pp.87-114. ISSN 0486-6525.

This paper presents a critical approach to the historical study of patronage and sponsorship in Colombia in the context of social construction processes of cultural heritage that museums star in. From the analysis of the controversy that the exhibition Moda Latinoamericana Barbie (Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá, 2003) raised in the artistic world, in the first decade of the century, this text presents, at the end, some assumptions that could guide historical research about the meaning of patrimonial processes, that have been institutionalized in all sectors of culture in Colombia in the last two decades. This is in the context of the emergence and consolidation of the "creative industries" or "cultural industries"

Keywords : museums; cultural heritage; merchandising; patronage; sponsorship; art museum; history of museological practices in Colombia.
