Abstract

FAJARDO BERNAL, Sebastián; NAVARRO PAEZ, Luis Felipe  and  MAHECHA BARACALDO, Jesús David. Dispersed Population during the Prehispanic and Colonial Periods in Remote Areas between the Sogamoso and Duitama Valleys. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.51, n.2, pp.265-292. ISSN 0486-6525.

An area of 5.76 km2 between the Sogamoso and Duitama Valleys was systematically surveyed. The study identified few and dispersed remains from prehispanic and colonial activities. The results suggested that at least a small part of the prehispanic and colonial population conducted everyday activities in remote, hard-to-reach areas with low human density. This evidence indicated that future archeological projects develop in the Eastern Highlands should consider that places labeled as inaccessible areas may have archaeological evidence.

Keywords : Muisca; settlement patterns; dispersed population; cultural resource management; Colombian Eastern Highlands.
