Resumen
CAMACHO S., Juana y OLMOS P., Antonio. “Balancing the Forces”: Organizational Processes of Indigenous Women to Address Intra-Community Sexual Violence and Access to Justice in Colombia. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2025, vol.61, n.2, e2815. Epub 01-Mayo-2025. ISSN 0486-6525. https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.2815.
Sexual violence is an emerging issue in Indigenous women’s struggles for rights, equality, and access to justice. Drawing on interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, and testimonies from Nasa, Arhuaco, and Embera women -who attest to their creative agency- this article describes and analyzes the organizational experiences they develop around intra-community sexual violence and their participation in the administration of Indigenous justice. We explore how, as they identify common needs and interests, they elaborate an intercultural critique of inequality and discrimination, while employing culture and law to construct new notions and practices of gendered justice. A central demand of Indigenous women, as emerging political subjects, is the articulation of individual and collective rights within the Indigenous political, legal, and cultural project.
