GONZALEZ AVENDANO, Sergio Albeiro; GALLEGO PATINO, Wilder; ZULUAGA ZULUAGA, Kelly Daniela  y  POSADA RESTREPO, William A.. Ancient Settlement and Domestic Spaces in the Pre-Hispanic Raised Field System of Urabá: Ceramic and Micromorphological Evidence at the Toribio Archaeological Site (Antioquia). Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2025, vol.61, n.2, e2773.  Epub 01-Mayo-2025. ISSN 0486-6525.  https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.2773.

The Toribio archaeological site is situated in the middle basin of the León River, in the municipality of Chigorodó, and forms part of the pre-Hispanic canal and raised field system of the Gulf of Urabá (Antioquia), despite the nearby absence of earth structures at this specific location. Its significance lies in features that distinguish it from other contexts studied in the regional hydraulic complex-namely, a high density of artifacts and the presence of ecodata linked to subsistence activities. To support the argument that domestic units reflect spatial variability within the Urabá hydraulic system, we conducted archaeological survey and excavation, collecting samples for micromorphological, radiometric, and ceramic analysis. The data revealed evidence of a possible domestic unit that reached its peaked around the 5th century AD, showing cultural affinities with human groups from the Panamanian Darién, Chocó, and the Western Cordillera of Antioquia. Activities related to the processing and consumption of riverine fauna were carried out at the site, probably alongside the use of plant resources that remain poorly understood in the area’s archaeological record.

Palabras clave : raised fields; archaeology; Gulf of Urabá; pre-Hispanic pottery; domestic site.
