This article analyzes Ecuador’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (RL). The central argument is that this list does not reflect Ecuadorian culture itself, but rather the methodologies, techniques, and expert discourses that shape which cultural expressions are included. Additionally, the list carries geographic and regional connotations that deviate from the national narratives meant to justify the heritage repertoire and the pursuit of balance with territorial, social, and cultural peripheries.
