Abstract

LOVON-CASO, David Jesús  and  LAROTA-SANZ, Ana de los Ángeles. New Centrality in Rural Urban Interface. Case: Sector Umapalca, South Zone of Metropolitan Arequipa. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.2, pp.48-59.  Epub Apr 03, 2021. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2020.2760.

The urban growth process pertaining to some Latin American cities has accelerated in recent times, thus generating peripheral areas with low density, relationship problems among rural and urban areas, as well as social, physical-spatial segregations and land use conflicts. That is why, through a process of identification through cartographic analysis, areas with potential for the development of new centralities are identified. One outcome of this intervention model the peri-urban area of Umapalca (Arequipa, Perú), an urban-rural interface model. It is the contention of the present study that fostering the development of New Centralities has an impact over the life quality of the of urban population, and in particular, that it is improved though the implementation of urban facilities aimed at energizing urban-rural areas.

Keywords : Urban centrality; urban-rural interface; Umapalca; urban development; urban planning; urban decentralization.
