Abstract

RICO-GARCIA, Sanyern Y.. Thermal performance of baked clay for construction in built spaces, semi-humid climate from Cúcuta. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.1, pp.158-172.  Epub June 15, 2023. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2023.25.3987.

The research determines the thermal behavior of baked clay in built spaces through the erection of two independent modules without openings and with insulation on the horizontal facades (base and roof). One of these modules was built with block in fired clay N.°5 of dimensions 1.66 1.66 h = 1.73 m, and the other, with solid baked clay brick of dimensions 1.67 m 1.67m h = 1.73m, with the application of an independent variable in mortar 1:4 of 0.015m thickness. The behavior of the material in the two stages required by the climate of Cúcuta, was recorded through the hourly recording of temperature and humidity (inside and outside the module): the high temperature season (25 days) and the rainy season (29 days). Therefore, the main objective of the research was to establish the thermal behavior of the two most used products in the construction system of confined masonry, following the argumentative hypothesis that the two clay products offered by the market, respond adequately to the climatic determinants of the city of Cúcuta, through the contribution of thermal inertia and damping, as a bioclimatic design strategy. Consequently, according to the analysis of the results, it was concluded that the module built with block N.°5 responds better to the climatic conditions of Cúcuta, showing a better performance compared to the module built in solid brick.
