Abstract
RAMOS-DELGADO, Raymundo and FLORES-RODRIGUEZ, Carlos E.. Architectural (Re)construction of the Religious Complex of La Cruz de Zacate in Tepic: a Crossroads of Influences. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2024, vol.26, n.2, pp.235-253. Epub Sep 04, 2024. ISSN 1657-0308. https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2024.26.4030.
The temple of La Cruz in Tepic, and later the convent of the same name, has transformed its spatial configuration over more than four centuries. With the miraculous apparition of the Santa Cruz de Zacate, discovered at the beginning of the 17th century on the village road that connected this city with the Franciscan convent of Xalisco, one of the most important devotions in western colonial Mexico was consolidated. This brought about the constant architectural reconstruction of a religious center that renewed its construction technologies and stylistic currents, reflecting the ways of thinking of specific historical periods. This article, from a hermeneutic standpoint, aims to visualize these different constructive, stylistic and ideological stages of the religious complex of La Cruz de Tepic, using the three stages of Henri Lefebvre's progressive-regressive method. Thus, at least six constructive stages will be identified and, subsequently, through this architectural reconstruction, the various spatial integrations that have taken place over time within this religious complex will be revealed.
Keywords : colonial architecture; religious buildings; architectural styles; Franciscan missions; architectural heritage.
