Abstract

VALENCIA AGUDELO, Germán Darío. Bolivia, 2003-2008: a period of profound political and economical transformations. Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2008, n.12, pp.179-202. ISSN 1657-4214.

Bolivia entered the last five year period at a time of deep political and economic transformations, evidenced by a series of reforms which president Evo Morales has carried out after his rise into power in January of 2006, and with him, the leftist political party, Movement for Socialism. This turn of events is a consequence of the representativeness crisis of traditional political parties and of their indictment as responsible of the precarious situation of the Bolivian people. Those changes which have generated the resurgence of strong pressure groups that seek, through referendums, regional autonomy and power ratifications, and, in consequence, a situation of political instability in this country.

Keywords : Bolivia; Latin America; political; economic and social juncture; movement for socialism; new left.
