Abstract

RHENALS M., Remberto. Is the minimum wage high in Colombia?: An international comparison. Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2009, n.13, pp.97-145. ISSN 1657-4214.

This article sample that Colombia seems to have levels of minimum wage and labor unmannerliness greater than the hoped ones in agreement with its entrance per capita, although is not between the countries of "maxi minimum wages". The shown descriptive empirical evidence does not seem to support the traditional approach on the relation between minimum wage and unmannerliness. This means that multilateral governments, analysts and organizations would have to be prudent when they recommend for the countries developing reductions in the minimum wage with the purpose of improving the entrance of the informal workers. From great importance it turns out to modify the against-cyclical policy of implemented minimum wage in the analyzed period, judging by the behavior of his relative levels. Finally, the policy of minimum wage in Colombia seems to be changing its objective, due to the enterprise strategy to eliminate the decentralized collective negotiation.

Keywords : minimum wage; use; informal sector; segmented labor markets; labor relations.
