Colombia's economy at the end of 2009 registered a negative average growth rate of about 0,4t%, which place it as the worst performer of the decade. The effects of external crises were reflected in the sharp contraction of domestic demand and falling production of traditional production sectors, especially industry and trade were the main reasons for the collapse of economic activity in Colombia. Although this complicated scenario to highlight the level of inflation achieved by the end of 2009, 2%, a level not recorded in the last 40 years. By 2010, the outlook is for a transition year, where the leading indicators point to an incipient recovery of the Colombian economy as a result of uncertainties in foreign exchange, foreign and fiscal policies.
