Abstract

QUINONES D., Mauricio. Job seeking channels and the duration of unemployment in Colombia. Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2010, n.16, pp.133-154. ISSN 1657-4214.

This paper studies the duration of unemployment in Colombia and highlights their relationship with the job search channels. To achieve it, nonparametric Kaplan-Meier and parametric models with Weibull function, were estimated. The information was taken from the Great Household Survey in the second quarter of 2008. It found that although the formal channel or traditional channel to search job is not the most widely used, it is the most effective to reducing the duration of unemployment, further of statistical significance is evidence in favor of the Colombian labor market rigidities.

Keywords : Duration of Unemployment; Job Search Channels; Nonparametric Estimation; Kaplan-Meier; Weibull Distribution.
