The paper contrasts the Kuznets inverted U hypothesis between output growth and inequality levels, using data from 40 countries for the period 1989-2006. This is achieved by performing a dynamic panel data estimation, using as an instrument the first lag of the variables. The results validated the hypothesis of the existence of a Kuznets curve for the period and the countries studied.
