SALINAS RINCON, José Daniel; GONZALEZ ARISMENDY, Sara Isabel e MARIN, Leidy Johana. Characteristics of the employed population in Colombia: An analysis of the profile of formal and informal. Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2012, n.20, pp.57-86. ISSN 1657-4214.
This work analyses the main characteristics of occupied population in Colombia. We study how changes in the worker's profile affect their labor income. We emphasizes in differences between formal and informal workers taking as reference two definitions of the informal sector: ILO and legalist. First we estimate Probit models to obtain the principal features of the economically active population (workers, unemployed and inactive population). For workers, we differentiate between formal and informal workers. Second, we analyses how the workers' profile affect their labor income; Mincer equations, with correction by self-selection bias, were estimated for years 2001, 2003 and 2006. We found that the informal sector is mainly composed of women and self-employee workers. Labor income of formal workers is more sensible to changes in educational level; meanwhile the labor income for informal workers is more sensible to changes in experience. That effect is more evident in employee than self employed workers.
