Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to provide conceptual and historical keys in order to contextualize the articles presented in this monographic edition of the magazine Perfil de coyuntura económica of the University of Antioquia. With this target, the article approaches a brief review of the conceptual focus of the public policies, also analyzing the recent diffusion in Latin America and their growing application at the sub-national level. Finally, after a brief analysis of the social cohesion concept and the relevance on the European integration process, the last part of the paper presents some good practices and successful experiences of the Euro-Latin American cooperation, identifying and promoting public policies made by local authorities and based on a good governance, social cohesion and democratic participation.
