Abstract

LOPEZ PENA, Nazly; LOPEZ GONZALEZ, Mauricio  and  MESA CALLEJAS, Ramón Javier. Public finance and local development. The case of the Municipalities of Antioquia; Colombia (2001-2011). Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2014, n.23, pp.57-79. ISSN 1657-4214.

Traditionally, development has been understood as a set of factors aimed to improve the quality of life of the citizens of a country or locality. Within these elements, aspects related to quality of local management and public resources management don't highlight. This article provides elements of the discussion about the incidence of a good management of local public resources on the quality life and local development. To prove this hypothesis, the paper presents a set of correlations between fiscal management and some development indicators for municipalities of Antioquia. The main conclusion is that surely a good state of local public finances, positively affects the quality life of the citizens.

Keywords : Fiscal decentralization; local development; public management.
