Abstract

GARZON DIAZ, Fabio Alberto. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: THE CASE OF THE EASTERN HILLS OF BOGOTA, COLOMBIA. rev.latinoam.bioet. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.1, pp.82-97. ISSN 1657-4702.

This research project has as its objective to demonstrate the challenging issues surrounding the Eastern Hills of Bogota as a complex griddle of ecological, social, economic, political, and cultural problems that hinder the implementation of conservation programs that guarantee the preservation of life in all its manifestations. To achieve this goal, a synthetic methodology will be employed wherein apparently isolated facts are interconnected and a unifying theory is formulated. In order to safeguard the conservation of the Eastern Hills of the capital city of Colombia, a type of government that generates sustainable development along with social justice, and keeps in mind not only the current lack of awareness of the environment, social, and cultural dimensions of the hills is recommended, along with a conservation model that integrates the citizens to the formulation of alternatives of life and development that promote the recuperation of the eastern hills and their sustainable utilization.

Keywords : Human ecology; environmental bioethics; ecosystems; environmental degradation; sustainable development.
