Abstract

BOWONIUK WIEGAND, Bárbara  and  LEAL DE MEIRELLES, Jussara Marial. Health of People with Disability in Brazil: an Integrative Review in the Bioethics Perspective. rev.latinoam.bioet. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.2, pp.29-44. ISSN 1657-4702.  https://doi.org/10.18359/rlbi.3900.

Inequality pervades several sectors of the Brazilian reality, so it also reaches the health sector. Regarding disabled people asymmetry is even more latent. This research seeks to identify in the scientific productions the difficulties handicapped patients face in Brazil in the realm of health access, which in practice stresses their vulnerability. Based on this, the association of the descriptors "health", "person" and "disability", was used in order to carry out a 2009-2018 publication search in the Capes, Lilacs and sciELO Brazilian newspapers. Out of the 29-article analysis, four categories emerged: a) professional preparedness to take care of patients with disabilities; b) barriers to health access; c) communication between disabled patients and the doctor/team; d) double vulnerability of disabled women. The corresponding categories were studied from the bioethics perspective due to the interdisciplinary nature of the topic and the difficulties disabled people face became evident. Some possible suggested improvements include modifying the medical act, training health professionals and perfecting the health policies in order to guarantee the fundamental right to health and self-determination of patients.

Keywords : health; disabled person; bioethics; vulnerability; human rights.
