The article presents an analysis of basic elements of the adaptation model, carried out by the study group of the Nursing Faculty. From a philosophic and scientific historical review of the Model's principles, concepts such as human adaptive system, environment, stimuli, coping mechanisms, adaptation level, health and nursing goal are approached, considering self-determination and personal mechanisms to reach an adequate level of adaptation.
