In the urinary tract of pregnant women important changes take place, are prone to suffer from infections of the urinary ways. Both asymptomatic bacteriuria and urinary tract infection (U.T.I) require a right detection and an appropriate treatment in order to avoid complications, and it is in these processes when an active care of the expectant mother and the support from the nursing staff become relevant. Objective: To describe the beliefs, practices and attitudes of the expectant women regarding the urinary infections, Alfonso Lopez Healthcare Centre, Popayán - Colombia. Method: The study was carried out through a qualitative ethnographic method, with twenty one pregnant women who attended the prenatal check-up at Alfonso Lopez Healthcare Centre. Results: The research allowed knowing the impact that the cultural knowledge has upon the self-care practice over the course of the gestation stage. Likewise, it was possible to see a strong disagreement about the use and treatment with antibiotics; given that some people think that those medications may have harmful effects on the baby.
