BECKER-VIEIRA, Letícia et al. Assistance Needs of Women who Report Incidents of Personal Violence to the Police. Aquichan [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.2, pp.197-205. ISSN 1657-5997.
Violence has a serious impact on women's lives and, for that reason, it is understood by the State, the health sector and civil society as an act that denies human rights and is an important issue in research. Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand the assistance needs of women who report incidents of personal violence to the police. Method: It is a qualitative study guided by the theoretical and methodological framework of the social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz. It was conducted at police stations in a city in southern Brazil through phenomenological interviews with 13 women. Results: Women's intention in denouncing incidents of violence perpetrated against them is an expression of hope with respect to their need for legal aid, institutional assistance and protection for themselves and their children. Conclusion: The complaint is related to institutional and social demands, which indicates the importance of viewing the victims in light of their human and social dimension.
