Promoting a safe environment is an essential function of nursing and occupies an increasingly central role in care management. The purpose of this article is to show the existence of an ethical-legal relationship between care management and risk management in the context of patient safety. Method: The article reflects on nursing care and patient safety from an ethical-legal standpoint. Findings: An ethical-legal link between care management and risk management is demonstrated. The order of that relationship and how it fits in with care management are defined, and risk supervision is proposed. Conclusions: Demonstrating the ethical and legal relationship between care management and risk management enhances patient safety as a moral and professional imperative for nurses and nursing.
