ARMENDARIZ-GARCIA, Nora Angélica et al. Alcohol Consumption: Family History and Behavior as a Sociocultural Factor during Adolescence.: A Nursing Perspective. Aquichan [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.2, pp.219-227. ISSN 1657-5997.  https://doi.org/10.5294/aqui.2015.15.2.6.

Adolescents are more likely to consume alcohol if they have a family history of alcohol consumption (FHAC). Objective: Identify the differences and association between FHAC, as a personal sociocultural factor, and unhealthy drinking behavior on the part of high school students in Nuevo Leon (Mexico). Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study focused on a population of 743 adolescent students; the sample included 240, with 90% power. Stratified random sampling was used, with allocation proportional to the size of the stratum. Random sampling within each stratum was done through single-stage cluster sampling. The FHAC Inventory and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Questionnaire were the instruments used. Findings: A higher prevalence of unhealthy behavior (alcohol consumption) was found among the adolescents with a positive FHAC. The same trend was found with respect to dependent and harmful alcohol consumption, andstatistically significant differences were observed (p < 0.05). A positive and significant correlation (rs = 0.196, p < 0.01) was identified when analyzing alcohol consumption, which indicates increased alcohol consumption by parents raises the likelihood of increased consumption by their adolescent children.
