Abstract

LENIS-VICTORIA, Claudia Andrea  and  MANRIQUE-ABRIL, Fred Gustavo. The Quality of Nursing Care as Perceived by Hospitalized Patients. Aquichan [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.3, pp.413-425. ISSN 1657-5997.  https://doi.org/10.5294/aqui.2015.15.3.9.

Objective: This research was intended to determine the quality of nursing care as perceived by patients hospitalized at a private clinic in Barranquilla , Colombia. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with a sample of 147 patients who had orders to be discharged. The Spanish version of the CUCACE questionnaire was used, subsequent to compliance with the criteria for inclusion. Ethical and regulatory aspects were taken into account, and scientific and methodological rigor was maintained. The data were organized in Excel and processed in SPSS. Results: Patient satisfaction and experiences with nursing care are above 70%. This indicates very positive results according to the CUCACE scale. The results for association only showed a relationship between these variables and gender; no significant association with the other socio-demographic variables was found. Women comprised 58.5% of the sample and men, 41.5%. In all, 96.6% of the patients in the sample felt no improvement in nursing care is required. Discussion and Conclusion: The patients have a positive perception of the nursing care they received at the institution. The score for experience with care was 93.22 and 78.12 for satisfaction, indicating patients perceive the quality of nursing care provided at the institution as being good. The results are consistent with those of similar studies conducted nationwide and internationally.
