Abstract

SANCHEZ MANCHOLA, Iván Darío. Los estilos de dirección y liderazgo: Propuesta de un modelo de caracterización y análisis. Pensam. gest. [online]. 2008, n.25, pp.1-39. ISSN 1657-6276.

The article presents a characterization and analysis model of the leadership and direction style of organizational leaders. With it an integral analysis is achieved, to the extent that it characterizes the style through the perception of the collaborators with a combination of two instruments: one quantitative and the other one qualitative. The quantitative instrument is a scale of 35 items; the qualitative, a structured guide of an in-depth interview with three basic questions and other auxiliary ones. The proposed theoretical model parts from a theoretical and conceptual analysis of the constituent elements of the leadership and direction style models, going mainly to the functional approaches. The overall structure of the model consists of an analysis of two dimensions that could be aimed by the leader, one concerning the emphasis on the tasks (results), the other emphasis on relations (people). From those two dimensions four styles of leadership and direction are constructed: the indifferent, technical, social and synergistic. The empirical evidence of the model was developed on two leaders of the human management area in two organizations of different economic sectors.

Keywords : Leadership and direction style; "Tasks" dimension; "Persons" dimension; variables; human resource management.
