Abstract
MARTINEZ DIAZ, Domingo José. Values and beliefs in Barranquilleros households' food consumption. Pensam. gest. [online]. 2009, n.27, pp.1-58. ISSN 1657-6276.
This article is based on the theory of consumer culture. Within this concept, we relate and discuss the elements of the culture of consumerism with one of the most important traditions as is the act of eating at home. A qualitative study of focus groups, consisting of housewives of different social strata, allows us to know the values and beliefs of Ba-rranquilleros households in relation to their food consumption patterns at home. Specifically, it discusses how values and beliefs are related in the consumption of Barranquilleros households, with elements of culture, i.e. with communication, the family, groups of reference, religion, the level of schooling, social organization, political affiliation, folk demonstrations, kind of food consumed by the family and social behavior etiquette manifested. Results show a relationship of food consumption with each of these elements, except with political affiliation.
