Abstract This article addressed from a strategic perspective, aims to characterize the practice of training and development and to investigate its relationship with organizational performance in manufacturing company's great Colombian region, is part of the resource-based theory, a study contrasting case in six companies, using a qualitative methodology which is applied depth interviews with human resources managers. The conclusion is that from the theoretical to found a strong association between these dimensions and from the observed empirical that the relationship the approach depends on the strategic value of training within organizations.
