TARAPUEZ CHAMORRO, Edwin. The cultural dimensions of Geert Hofstede and the entrepreneurial intention in university students of Quindío (Colombia). Pensam. gest. [online]. 2016, n.41, pp.60-90. ISSN 1657-6276.

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the cultural context of Quindio (Colombia) and business intention of university students. The methods used are as follows: Multiple Correspondence Analysis and Logistic Regression, which were applied to data obtained from a sample of 297 students from the last semester of the different professional careers in the region. As for the five dimensions of Geert Hofstede, the results show that there are three similarities and two differences between the Colombian culture and that of Quindio; on the other hand, young people from private universities are more associated with a low entrepreneurial intention and with the fact of having or having had a company, while those of the public university are more related to a serious business intention. It is concluded that the type of university and the long-term vision that university students perceive in regional entrepreneurs are the two factors that most influence their intention to create entrepreneurship. The main contribution of this work is that in spite of the cultural similarities that can occur between a country and its regions, each territory generates its own cultural dynamics whose dimensions influence the entrepreneurial intention at the local level.

Palavras-chave : entrepreneurial intention; entrepreneurship; Hofstede; entrepreneurial culture.
