This article analyzes the managerial features of the owners-administrators of the cocoa and chocolate haciendas located in Comalcalco and Cunduacán, Tabasco, Mexico; these owners face the challenge of commercial management, manufacturing and agricultural management. The managerial process becomes more complex because they participate in two sectors: agro-industry and tourism. In the first one, with physical products and in the second one, with intangibles (services). The purpose of this work is to add value to the knowledge of the profile of the agro-industrial mexican entrepreneur. The qualitative method with a phenomenological systemic approach was followed. The main findings, based on the management skills model of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), show that employers have marked intellectual competences of adaptability and results orientation; as well as strategic competences. However, they are pursuing to consolidate the competencies related to the management of the internal environment.
