Abstract

The objective of the article was to propose the process for applying strategic management in small and medium-sized companies, based on the analysis of the way in which they currently do it and taking into account existing theoretical models, such as David, Steiner, Ansoff, among others. For this purpose, a propositive-conclusive-descriptive investigation was carried out, of a transversal type and using the deductive method; for which information was obtained from a sample of 68 small and medium-sized companies in Tolima, a department located in the center of Colombia, through the application of a structured questionnaire. The main result corresponds to the proposal of a five-stage process for the application of strategic management in SMEs, which responds to the main conclusions of the study, as soon as there was a low formalization of the process and an unsystematic and holistic application of strategic management.
