Abstract

ZUNIGA SALINAS, Clara María. Hermeneutics and Multiculturalism. The Three Hermeneutic Steps in a Multicultural Horizon and the Analysis of a Case: the Indigenous and the Contemporary Latin American. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2013, n.24, pp.287-301. ISSN 1657-6357.

This paper begins with the following hypothesis: philosophical hermeneutics and the concept of "fusion of horizons", proposed by Hans Georg Gadamer, applied to the multicultural postmodern landscape may provide the understanding of the "other" and not only their knowledge, thus enriching the perception of their own horizon. Through a methodology of critical & conceptual review of the field canonical texts, and taking as starting point the polemical "postmodernism" it arrives to two of its most outstanding phenomena: multiculturalism and globalization. These, identified as a source of "clashing meaning horizons", can take us to the "fusion of horizons", following on the steps and theory developed by H. G. Gadamer. Lastly, we will review the cases of contemporary Latin American and the Indigenous, using the concepts developed throughout the paper.

Keywords : Recognition; Identity; Multiculturalism; Fusion of Horizons; The Other.
