Abstract

ESTEFAN VARGAS, Soraya. State Discrimination Against LGBT People. Cases of Violations of Human Rights in Latin America. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2013, n.25, pp.183-204. ISSN 1657-6357.

Besides social discrimination and exclusion, official state regulations, judicial decisions and positions of government are also a source of discrimination against the LGBT population. This article discusses some laws, rulings and other administrative proceedings in Latin American Countries, in order to show that the discriminatory patterns that impose a compulsory heterosexuality and normative identities are, likewise, expressed by government activity, which contravenes the protection provided by the right of Human Rights to this population.
