Abstract

SOLEDAD OJEDA, Natalia. "Women's Prison". An Ethnographic View on Affective Relationships in a Medium Level Security Prison in Argentina. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2013, n.25, pp.237-254. ISSN 1657-6357.

This paper is an approach to identify the forms in which affectivity develops inside women's prisons. Such reflections are the result of an ethnographic fieldwork conducted in a Correctional Institution that houses adult women. The paper develops a refreshing outlook on the prison's social order, based on the assessment and understanding of the affectivity of the detainees: alliance, love and solidarity. An approach of this kind is contrary to traditional perspectives, which characterize imprisonment as a confinement marked exclusively by punishment and institutional surveillance.

Keywords : Women; Prison; Affectivities; Prison's Social Order.
