Abstract
MARIN-LANCHEROS, Julián Andrés. Naming the Unnamable: The Counter-Monument Fragments and Sexual Violence. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2023, n.49, e10111725. Epub Aug 10, 2023. ISSN 1657-6357. https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i49.11725.
This article explores the symbolic reparation of the victims of sexual violence in the Colombian armed conflict through the counter-monument Fragments, created by the artist Doris Salcedo. The methodology used is a documentary analysis of various online sources published between 2012 and 2020. The main findings are that Doris Salcedo’s works are based on three elements: an unrepresentable conception of violence, a metaphorical use of objects, and a listening to the testimonies of the victims. The article also argues that counter-monuments are forms of public art that seek to reveal the truth and demand justice for the past, especially when it has been marked by violence. The metaphorical and fictional language of art enables new ways of raising awareness about crimes such as sexual violence.
