Abstract

VELEZ QUINTERO, Andrés. The 1971 Student Movement from the Division of Social and Economic Sciences at Universidad del Valle. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2024, n.53, e10112961.  Epub Sep 30, 2024. ISSN 1657-6357.  https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i53.12961.

The article describes events that took place within the Division of Social and Economic Sciences at Universidad del Valle between 1970 and 1971, documented through texts found in the Historical Archive of Universidad del Valle, produced by the protagonists themselves: administrators and students of the academic unit. These events are connected to the broader student mobilization of the time, which is recognized as one of the most significant in the history of the student movement in Colombia due to its political impact and the use of violence by the state. The article contributes to the recovery of the local and academic dimension within the context of student unrest, which was rooted in the limited institutional and intellectual development of the academic unit. This perspective makes it possible to challenge the dominant national political narrative that was imposed at the time.

Keywords : student movement; academic conflict; Universidad del Valle; Colombia.
