Abstract

ECHEVERRY LOPEZ, María Esperanza. The community-based organizations: their impact on building of the right to health care. Rev. Gerenc. Polit. Salud [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.17, pp.80-105. ISSN 1657-7027.

This is a qualitative study carried out from 2005 to 2007. Ten consumer-based organizations (CBO) in Medellin Colombia were interviewed in order to identify their influence on building of the right to health care during the period of time in which the Colombian health care reform took place. The findings classify the CBOS according to their achievements and activities. Likewise show the denied health care services that the CBO's make visible and bring to light by means of their collective action. Poverty, lack of autonomy, and low levels of internal democracy were found to limit impact of those organization's actions when trying to impact on building of the right to health care
