The present research consists of identifying the teaching challenges of a rural teacher in Caldono, Cauca, Colombia, in the midst of COVID-19. For this purpose, we interviewed a 29-year-old teacher, resident of the rural area of Caldono, Cauca, Colombia, member of the Nasa indigenous reservation, who has been teaching a Bachelor’s Degree in Popular Ed ucation for 9 years at the “El Nazareno” school. Through the teacher’s discourse, it is evident that she has developed skills, through which the children learned to value their process, by allowing the personalization of the process, which generated greater attention, and at the same time, it delayed the thematic development, by causing disinterest and intellectu al laziness. This is why the teacher expresses that the work from the contextual pedagogy with social approach allows the reinforcement of skills in the students, by using the resources available to them for the development of the classes. The con clusion of this process highlights the need to implement public policies, which address the particularities of rural education, by guaranteeing access to adequate technological resources and materials, as well as strengthening teacher training in specific contexts.
