This paper investigates factors related to the social appropriation of knowledge in university research projects. Systematic literature review and multiple case study were used for the identification and explora tion of facilitating and constraining factors. The results suggest the exis tence of thirty Factors, which influence social appropriation within which economic resources, time, and motivation are consolidated as relevant. These factors emerge at the external level, from the project team and the target community. The findings indicate cause and effect relationships of influence between factors.
