Abstract

GONZALEZ, Alberto Matías  and  ARTILES BELTRAN, Jorge Luis. Agricultural credit and service cooperatives in Cuba. Civilizar [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.30, pp.161-174. ISSN 1657-8953.

Cuba is undergoing a process of expansion of cooperative structures in the economic and productive sector. This article contains an analysis of the development, with its contradictions, of credit and service cooperatives that incorporated farmers from all regions of the country. The report was formed from the query of results of several investigations of scholars, who have taken agricultural cooperatives as an object of study. The completion of the field work included visits to farmers belonging to these organizations, the consultation of documents of the Cuban agrarian law and speeches by government representatives. From a historical perspective, the main economic, social and environmental trends contained in their evolution are characterized.

Keywords : Cooperatives; social economy; agrarian law; agrarian reform; peasantry.
